My lab seeks to understand how the brain coordinates body movement and sensory perception in order to efficiently learn about the world. We use mice as a model system to investigate neural circuits for perception and action, using a combination of machine learning for videographic tracking and modeling of behavior, large-scale electrophysiological recording of interacting brain regions, and interventions to control brain activity. Finally, we are interested in how these neural computations meet the challenge of recovery and resilience from disease and disorder, using mouse models of hearing loss, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Our long term goal is to rationally engineer novel neural interventions to augment and repair neural computations.
